More Truck Drivers Involved in Deadly Accidents Test Positive for Drugs

(Summer 2017) The trucking industry recorded an 8% rise in lethal crashes from 2014 to 2015, with almost 4,000 truck drivers killed on the road in 2015. Of these, 185 drivers screened had one or more drugs in his or her system. Reflecting the overall trend of increased U.S. drugged driving fatalities, stimulants appeared in 1.8% of the operators (up 23% since 2014), cannabinoids in 1.5% (an increase of 21% more drivers than in 2014), narcotics in 1% and other drugs in 2% of the truckers.
